Cant afford high-end antivirus software? No worries. Google is now the resident malware guardian on the block.
For the incredible low price of free, Google will not only let you scour the internet, it will also let you know if your computer is infected with malware. The company made the announcement in a recent blog post. According to head of security engineering, Damian Menscher, Google has detected that a certain type of malware causes undue strain on their servers. This particular type of malware is usually not detected by the user of PC, so Google has gone the extra mile to warn them about it. Sweet!

So, from now on if your computer is infected by this particular type of malware, Google will display a big pop-up alert as well as instructions on how to fix things. The new in-line malware check only works with one type of malware for now though, so dont expect Google to replace your more traditional forms of computer security.
It sort of makes you wonder what other dangers lurk in the bowels of your computer; what if you dont search with Google!? Is this announcement, Googles way of showing up anti-virus companies? After all, if you are running something robust like Norton and Google comes along and finds a virus, what gives?
The message here is vigilance; its great that Google is looking out for our computers, but in the end, security is the responsibility of the owner.
