Google takes over the G.Co domain name to use it as its official URL shortcut for its products like Documents, Gmail, and Photos. People from .Co registry didnt wnt to divulge the amount of the purchase but co-founder Juan Diego Calle once said that single letter domains cost around $1.5 million.
Google said that it would use the domain to make shortcuts for all its products and online services with the format g.co/product name. People visiting a G.CO shortcut can be sure that it would direct them to a Google page.

The .Co domain is based in Colombia and has the support of the Colombian government. It has been marketing the domain to tech companies. 500 Startups just announced that it would rebrand itself from 500Startups.com to 500.co this coming fall.
500 Startups co-founder Dave McClure said that he recommends the .Co domain to all his startups. .Co gives the startups a short but credible domain name. The domain has become the hottest geek TLD in the tech industry.
The .Co domain will celebrate its first anniversary since its public launch in a couple of days. It recently reached 1 million registered domains in its first ten months of business. Its marketing has always targeted the tech industry.
