There have been several Asus Eee Pad models around the market, but this upcoming device has something unique to other Eee Pads and even tablet computers in general.
The Asus Eee Pad Slider SL 101 comes with a full QWERTY keyboard, which slides to create a very portable notebook-type device. The company has recently unveiled a full specs list, which includes a NVIDIA Tegra 2 1GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of memory, 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera, 5-megapixel rear-facing imager, mini-HDMI, Android Honeycomb, Adobe Flash support, a built-in USB port, ten-finger multi-touch screen with 1,280 x 800 resolution and scratch-proof Gorilla Glass, a microSD card reader, WiFi, Bluetooth, and Supreme SRS Sound for those who like their bass sounds loud.
The Slider also comes in two storage configurations: 16GB and 32GB, costing $400 and $550 respectively. Availability is still sketchy, though sources say the 10.1-inch tablet will ship in Europe this September.

Finally, after being pulled out of its May release due to compatibility issues with Honeycomb, the Acer Iconia Tab A100 gets its availability and price details. According to an e-mail sent out to Acer retail partners, the 7-inch Honeycomb tablet will be available in the market around early August with a suggested price of $300. The tablet is considered the little brother of Iconia Tab A500, which was released in April, featuring a Tegra 2 processor, USB 2.0 port, 16GB of storage and WiFi connectivity.
Acer also offers a pair of new Aspire notebooks: the 15.6-inch 5750Z and the 17.3-inch 7739Z, both priced at $475 each. Both laptops features 4GB of DDR3 RAM (upgradable to 8GB), 500GB of storage, and Intel Pentium processors.

A lot of shaking happened among e-book sellers as the iOS App Store imposed stricter rules over apps that directly compete with Apple�s very owniBooks , including the imposition of 30 percent tax on every in-app purchases. While some e-reader apps made some changes to deal with Apple�s charges, others opted to bolt out.
Nook Kids, for instance, no longer has a link provided in the app that enables users to purchase books from Barnes & Noble. The Kobo and Borders apps have also been modified to cope with the new rules. Meanwhile, Amazon�s Kindle app has removed its �Kindle Store button� and instead adds support for magazines and newspapers.
Another major shake-up was the removal of Google Books from the iTunes App Store. Google has yet to make a statement about this development, but it is possible that the app would be back with Apple�s compliance.
It has to be pointed out, however, that iPhone and iPad users can still purchase e-book content outside of iBooks through Safari or any browser.

We really do not hear much about Windows-based tablets with all the iPad versus Android war going on. But with the looming release of Windows 8, some companies want to hitch a ride anyway, one of which is Dell and its Peju tablet. Recently, new information about the upcoming device was leaked online.
A blog called Dell Peju Insider popped out and its latest (and only) post gave a supposed list of specs for the tablet. This includes a 10.1-inch Gorilla Glass touchscreen with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB or 120GB of solid-state drive, digitizer pen support, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a docking station with a variety of ports, Windows 7 Pro (which can be upgraded to Windows 8), and up to 8 hours of battery life.
With the looks of it, the Dell Peju could be targetting home consumers, especially with the inclusion of the docking station. The �insider blog� claims that the tablet will be released at around October 2011.

After unveiling the 9.7-inch WiFi-only TouchPad and a 3G/ WiFi counterpart, HP is said to be building a 7-inch version of the TouchPad that will be released in August. If you are one of many who prefer a more portable tablet, this should come as good news.
The news came out from Taiwan Economic News, which reported a claim from an Inventec employee that HP ordered up to 450,000 tablets every month from their company. Among those orders, according to the source, is a 7-inch TouchPad. Whether it would be WiFi-only, with 3G, or even with 4G, remains a mystery.
We have yet to hear from HP to confirm this report.

Judge Lucy Koh has rejected Samsung�s request to inspect Apple�s iPhone 5 and iPad 3. In an 11-page document, she explained that while Samsung is entitled to �parity,� requesting for Apple to hand over unreleased and unrevealed products was a bit overreaching.
While the decision sounds good for Apple, the rejection of Samsung�s motion is not permanent because the court may have to wait until the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 become available for inspection before deciding whether or not �consumer confusion� will exist as claimed by Apple. This also means that Apple may not get thepreliminary injunction that would have barred Samsung from selling certain products in the United States.
Although Apple may not get the injunction that it wants, it may focus its legal battles against Samsung�s unreleased and unnannounced products that could pose an infringement threat. And the cycle continues.

While the tablet market today has become one of the more competitive markets for devices out there, that doesn�t stop many companies from trying to get their own tablet versions out there. Btu while they may have all the attractive features, it seems that their expected prices may not be something that almost anyone can afford. If tablet makers would want to attract a customer base, then having a more affordable price point would surely do that. That is what Vizio did by coming up with its own 8-inch Vizio Tablet.
Vizio is more known for its good quality yet inexpensive TV sets. It has now come up with the Vizio Tablet that was initially designed to sync up with its Vizio home theater line to function like a universal remote control. But the Vizio Tablet is an interesting piece of device in itself.
The Vizio Tablet may be comparable to features of most tablets that are currently out there- a 1GHz processor, 8-inch touchscreen display, 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage with microSD support for up to 32GB. It also runs on the Android Gingerbread OS. But what probably may be more interesting for most people is that the Vizio Tablet will just cost around US$350. That�s quite a bargain compared to the prices of the current line of tablets out there. While most people would surely not line up at Walma

After months of rumors and speculations, DigiTimes reports with certainty that Amazon will be coming up with its own LCD tablet. The report specifically states that Quanta Computer will be responsible for assembling the tablet, which will supposed to feature a TI processor and Wintek touch panel.
DigiTimes adds that Amazon hopes to ship around four million units of these tablets in 2011 alone. The Amazon tablet device is expected to be launched as soon as August, but we would rather hear the launch date, as well as the existence of the tablet itself, from the company itself.

The computer tablet market has exploded this year, with every man and his dog rushing to sell their own iPad rival. The Android-powered Asus Eee Pad Transformer tries to distinguish itself from the pack. Like the Asus Eee Pad Slider, the Transformer marries the portability and always-on convenience of a tablet with the comfort of a laptop, thanks to its optional keyboard dock.

Tablets in disguise

The Transformer is essentially a netbook that splits in half. Simply release a catch, and the 10.1-inch screen detaches. Then you can grab your tablet and carry it around with you for some quick Web browsing, emailing or film watching on the move. The keyboard can stay at home if you're travelling light, or in your bag ready to emerge when you've got somewhere to sit and you need to type away during more in-depth tasks. When you're done, the docked keyboard and tablet fold away exactly like a normal laptop.

Lenovo has had a similar idea with the LePad and U1 dock. The LePad also switches between Windows and Android.

The Transformer's dock is a very elegant solution. For your money, you get a netbook and a tablet, with the advantages of both and a few extra benefits besides. Battery life is one: each half of the Transformer has an 8-hour battery life, and, when you dock the two together, that extends to 16 hours. If the tablet is running out of juice, docking with the keyboard will charge it up again.

But the biggest advantage is the flexibility of choosing how you want to work, depending on what you want to do. Light use -- like watching video, checking emails or catching up on Facebook -- means simply pulling out the tablet. When you can't face using the touchscreen for a bigger task, like writing an important email or doing some work, simply slap the keyboard on the nearest flat surface and get typing.

Even the netbook-sized keyboard is a welcome alternative to an on-screen keyboard when you're getting stuck into an extended typing session. It's more comfortable to set a laptop-shaped device down than to have to hold or prop up a tablet while tapping on the screen. And both devices are extremely lightweight on their own, so, even when slotted together, the Transformer is still very portable.

The 1,280x800-pixel screen plays Flash video and 1080p high-definition movies. You can make video calls with a 1.2-megapixel camera in the middle of the screen bezel. On the back there's a 5-megapixel camera for taking proper pictures, as long as you don't mind looking silly when you hold the whole thing up to snap your picture.

Netbooks are often criticised for being underpowered, but the Transformer takes care of that. It boasts a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 ARM processor, Nvidia GeForce graphics and a choice of either 16GB or 32GB of storage. There's also an SD card slot for extra memory.

Slide away

Some users may prefer the Eee Pad Slider's built-in physical keyboard because it means the tablet is completely self-contained. But the built-in keyboard makes it a much thicker device, which isn't a problem for the Transformer as you can just whip the keyboard off. And the Slider's screen only opens to one position, while the Transformer's screen can be adjusted to the right angle for you, like any laptop screen.

Like the Eee Pad Slider and Eee Pad MeMo, the Transformer will be powered by version 3.0 of Google's Android mobile operating system, code-named Honeycomb. Honeycomb will offer flashy 3D-style graphics, a fancy new version of Google Maps, and, more importantly, a layout that's suited to the larger screen size of a tablet. What it won't do, however, is support keyboard shortcuts, so, when you're typing on the Transformer in netbook mode, you won't be able to hit Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to copy and paste.

That's the main caveat to the idea of a tablet that turns into a laptop: while it looks like a laptop, it's still an Android mobile device. You're limited to Android apps rather than installing your own software, and you won't have the full experience you'd get from a Windows laptop or Apple MacBook.

Outlook

Being able to detach the screen from the keyboard proves to be a neat solution to the fact that tablets sacrifice usability for portability. If you're not keen on netbooks, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer won't be the ideal device for you, but, if portability is your main concern, then this tablet should offer the best of both worlds.

SEOUL, March 5 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world's second-largest maker of mobile phones, said on Saturday that it will release the latest generation of its tablet computer, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, as scheduled, denying speculations that it might postpone its release to make improvements.

Samsung last month unveiled a new tablet PC featuring a 10-inch screen that uses the Android platform. Powered by the new version of Android Honeycomb software, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a larger screen, thinner body and faster processor than the previous model, which had a 7-inch display.
Apple Inc., however, effectively set a new bar for competitors by unveiling the iPad 2 this week. Touted by Apple CEO Steve Jobs as "dramatically thinner" than the previous iPad, the new tablet is 2.1 millimeters thinner than the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
