In Singapore today, Chinese electronics manufacturer, Huawei hosted the official global launch of its latest tablet, the Huawei media pad. Present at the event were Qualcomm, Gameloft, and Real as well - partners that worked together with Huawei to create the tablet. The event was brief and straight to the point, showing off to the world what Huawei has in store for us.

The MediaPad's specs are what you would expect from what Huawei calls the world's smartest, slimmest, lightest, and affordable tablet in its class. It will be the world's first tablet to run on Qualcomm's 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, and Android 3.2 Honeycomb. Yes, that's 3.2 and not 3.1. According to Victor Xu, Huawei's Chief Marketing Officer - it is the first version of the Android operating system that's been optimized to run on 7? tablets. Other than that, he didn't elaborate on what else Android 3.2 brings to the table. Perhaps we'll find out more in due time.

The tablet features a 7? display that has a pixel density of 217 PPI, which is pretty impressive, especially when compared to other tablets such as the iPad 2 (132 PPI), Galaxy Tab 10.1 (149) and Motorola Xoom (160). But keep in mind that the tablet's display is smaller: the other tablets have ~10? screens. It supports 1080p full HD video, HDMI output, and Flash 10.3. The tablet is also touted to play audio and video files of any format. Huawei worked together with RealNetworks (the folks behind RealVideo and RealPlayer) to ensure the tablet's ability to play any format. Announced formats include: WMV, Flash, Mp3, and H.264.

It has a sleek two-tone uni-body aluminum alloy body with a design that is said to resemble an hour clock. It weighs 0.86 pounds (390g), and is 10.5mm thick - with its 7? size, its small form factor is the ideal size to travel around with. The MediaPad also features HSPA+ 14.4Mbps, WiFi and Bluetooth2.1+EDR connectivity. It comes with a GPS radio, and A-GPS support. The tablet packs a 5-megapixel rear camera with HD video recording (not mentioned if its 1080p or 720p), and a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera.

The tablet will support the Android Market, Huawei's own app store, and other 3rd party app stores. No prices were announced but Victor Xu promises that it will be available globally in Q3 this year (America, Asia and select European markets). The tablet will be sold through carriers and retail outlets. So far the tablet sounds like a great device for watching movies, listening to music and playing games on the go. We'll just have to see is Huawei delivers what it promises when the MediaPad is released later this year.

Huawei has just issued the press release regarding its MediaPad , the Chinese company's big new attempt at a mass-market Android tablet. The exciting news is it's running the �Honeycomb� tablet version of Android, with Huawei claiming the MediaPad will arrive running �Android 3.2?. Which could happen.

The MediaPad is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm processor, supports Flash Player and has dual cameras, with a 5megapixel one around the back. Given Huawei's excellent track record in delivering the goods for a nice price, this might just be the monster tablet smash Android needs.

Huawei says the MediaPad will be launching is �select markets� from Q3 of this year. We're excited about it. Here's the press release:

Huawei's new MediaPad proves one thing: That the style of any and every tablet�at least from the front� is fixed. The screen gets a thick black bezel, and is et into an aluminum frame.

Round back the new seven-inch tablet gets a few stylings which are its own. The camera sits in the center, and there are black triangles cut out top and bottom. It's inspired.

Inside, the MediaPad is the first seven-inch tablet to be running Android 3.2 HoneyComb, specially optimized for the smaller screen. That screen, by the way, is an IPS panel with a 217 ppi resolution. It sits inside a body which is a shade over a centimeter thick, weighs 0.86 pounds (390g) and Huawei's claimed battery life is six hours (Huawei doesn't say whether this was tested with or without the installed Flash plugin switched on).

The rear camera gives five megapixels and the front one 1.3MP. The radios are 802.11n fir Wi-Fi and HSPA+ for 3G. You get 8GB storage, and the processor is a Qualcomm dual-core 1.2GHz chip.

As Android tablets go, this one looks pretty sweet. It will, of course, come down to the apps and the OS, two things which have proved a lot harder to copy than a bezel and a slim aluminum shell. Price and availability to be announced.

Huawei MediaPad [Facebook]

Chinese firm Huawei is making its move into the burgeoning tablet market, launching a powerful-looking 7-inch tablet running Android 3.2 Honeycomb.

Launched in Singapore, the Huawei MediaPad is driven by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor from Qualcomm and comes with a version of Google's operating system that isn't available yet. This power makes it significantly more attractive than last year's Samsung Galaxy Tab, which seems positively dated, even though it was only released last year.

If any comparisons are to be made, it's probably fairer to place it in competition with the Motorola Xoom, which also has a dual-core processor from chip firm Nvidia. But instead of going for the 10-inch size screen of the Xoom, it's following the 7-inch example set by the Samsung's tablet and BlackBerry PlayBook.

The MediaPad also supports impressive 1080p full HD video playback as well as a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera and 5-megapixel auto focus rear facing camera. Naturally, the camera can record in HD. It can also connect to the net at at a fair old whack, offering HSPA+ speeds at a max of 14.4Mbps.

As well as the ability to run Flash 10.3 and access to Android Market apps, you have major contender here from a company more well known for doing things a little more behind the scenes in Europe and the US. But there's nothing like a little healthy competition to challenge the current dominance of the iPad 2.

After releasing the sneak peek video of the MediaPad last week, Huawei has launched an official Facebook page listing some details about the upcoming tablet. While they don't reveal the complete specs of the device on the page, they do drop an additional clue about the tablet. According to the screenshot of the tablet available on the site, it will be running on Android Honeycomb, judging by the familiar looking interface, with the Android menu at the bottom of the screen as well.

And what we know from the previously video is that the tablet should be about 7? in size. Not much else is known about the device. At this time of writing, it'll be 6 days, 3 hours and 35 minutes until the device is revealed. Stay tuned for more details.

There isn't much information on Huawei's new tablet but what we've learned so far is that this little bit fitted with either a Qualcomm 1.5GHz Dual Core CPU or one of NVIDIA's Tegra 2 Wonders. This new tablet Screen size seems to be around 7" with a possible 1280�800 resolution and should also comes with Android 3.0 Honeycomb, WiFi, 3G Bluetooth and of course a Web Camera!

Remember the image of the MediaPad tablet that Huawei teased us with last week? Well, we've been given more clues about the upcoming tablet. Huawei has just released a sneak peek video of the tablet in action. While we still don't get to see the tablet's front (its interface, UI, OS etc), we do get to see its relative size - it is small but not as small as I had envisioned, probably around 7? in size.

Judging by the video, it's supposed to be some sort of entertainment device that's captivating (from the looks of the guy spilling the filling of his pastry on the girl's arm) so we suspect it should have an impressive display. Or that the tablet is capable of running beautiful looking apps. Hit the break to check out the video for yourself and let us know your thoughts.

Picking up cues from ASUS' teasing campaign they pulled off last week for the Padfone, Huawei has also on in the mysterious tablet game, except that Huawei isn't as mysterious as ASUS' giving us a full-frontal shot of the tablet, as well as a side view. Judging by the objects around the tablet, it looks like it's going to be pretty small, relative to a tea cup and a watch. Huawei also claims �the MediaPad is our smartest, smallest and lightest tablet ever - guaranteed to transform the consumer's entertainment experience�.

Other than that we have no clues to what it could be. We're thinking a mini, slim, entertainment-focused Android tablet. Since Huawei has been doing pretty well in the budget phone sector, let's see how well they can handle the tablet market. Stay tuned for more details when the tablet is revealed.

Our favourite Chinese tech manufacturer is teasing the release of a new tablet, which it claims will be its �smallest� and �lightest� tablet release so far. The company's �next-generation smart device� will be shown off to media on June 20th, before making an appearance at the CommunicAsia 2011 show.

There's no specific mention of Android in the announcement or image�

�but it must be, right? Huawei isn't going to go all Windows 7 on us now, is it? Plus no buttons at all usually means Android 3.0.

Huawei has just announced its plans to present a new tablet called MediaPad at the upcoming CommunicAsia expo in Singapore. It will most probably run on Android and will be part of their IDEOS lineup.

While the hard facts are scarce at this time, at least we have press photos of the tablet.

Huawei claims that "the MediaPad is our smartest, smallest and lightest tablet ever ? guaranteed to transform the consumer?s entertainment experience".

Whether this will come true or not, we?ll know on June 20, a day before the CommunicAsia kicks in Singapore.

Without providing much more detail than calling it their �smartest, smallest and lightest tablet ever,� Huawei has announced they will be unveiling a new tablet on June 20th as part of CommunicAsia 2011 in Singapore. The tablet, to be called the MediaPad, will be showcased on site and as part of a live global webcast that will detail Huawei's current business plans, open the floor to questions, and demonstrate the new slate and other products. The only other thing we were provided with were the images above and below. We're better Huawei gets this thing in at a budget price, but will it feature such luxuries as Android Honeycomb or a dual-core processor?
