Microsoft made a mistake of identifying Google Chrome browser as a malware. On September 30, Microsoft�s built-in Security Essentials suite has labelled the �alternative� browser as having the �PWS:Win32/Zbot� malware, causing Chrome to be removed from PCs and prohibited from reinstalling. The false alarm was probably caused by an unspecified Chrome�s seamless updates.
Although the company behind the popular Windows OS has corrected the problem on the same day, it could not be helped but speculate whether Microsoft is just giving users of browsers other than its own Internet Explorer a very bad day. The market share of Internet Explorer is dropping as many Windows users choose alternative web browsers like Firefox and Chrome.
Meanwhile, Google has released an update that automatically repairs the Chrome browser for affected users. This requires tinkering on Security Essentials and reinstalling the browser.
