Google Ventures announced that it would invest in Crittercism, a SDK that provides customer support for mobile, and Astrid, a task manager app. The announcement was made by Rich Miner during the fourth annual MobileBeat conference by VentureBeat. rich miner
Miner talked about the non-existing Android fund. Kleiner Perkins has its Apple-focused iFund but Android startups are nowhere to be found. Miner said that its all about mobile and this is evident with its new investments, which are both mobile companies.
Miner became a partner of Google Ventures after Google acquired Android, which he co-founded. He has seen the mobile phone market grow each year. He has 25 years of experience regarding businesses in communications and interface-based applications.
He spent his early years with Google developing the Android platform and its ecosystem. Before Android, Miner was Vice President at Orange, where he supervised R&D activities in North America and was the founding principal of Orange Ventures.
Six years ago, Android was treated as a separate startup in Google. It was self-funded when Google acquired it. Miner was impressed how Googles co-founders Larry Page, Eric Schmidt and Sergey Brin understood the mobile industry. They gave Android the right support and flexibility from the start.
