Gaming laptops were out of favor recently regarding to Intel Sandy Bridge mainstream machines from all vendors taking up all the attention. We had enough of them by now and luckily ORIGIN has just finished overclocking 2nd generation Intel Extreme Edition Core i7 so that you could configure your ORIGIN EON17-S with a 4.0 GHz to 4.5 GHz with Turbo Boost processor. This is in EON17-S’ top configuration and the company also provides you with a fistful of processing units, graphics cards, storage modules, etc. to choose from.
We have played with an online configurator a bit to figure out that a compromising rig with above mentioned quad-core Intel Extreme Edition Core i7-2920XM and a top NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M with 2 GB GDDR5 frame plus 16 GB DDR3 dual-channel SDRAM @ 1 600 MHz, a hybrid 240 GB SSD / 750 GB HDD @ 7 200 rpm storage and a standard 17.3-inch 1 920 × 1 080 Full HD LED display subtotals under.
A maxed out ORIGIN EON17-S goes way past $10 000 mainly due to 32 GB RAM and 2 × 512 GB SSDs.
Oh, by the way, even an 8-cell detachable battery which comes as standard won’t last two hours and it weighs 8.6 lbs. So there might be not as much gaming on the go as you would expect. Shipments start in mid May.
