South Korean handset maker Samsung is tapping blooming Android-powered smartphone market of India. Earlier Samsung has launched 4 Android powered smartphones including one CDMA smartphone of Galaxy series.
Samsung has introduced these new two Galaxy smartphones �Galaxy 3 (i5800) and Galaxy 5(i5500) at a time when BlackBerry services is under scanner for security reasons and tech savvy people are liking to try hands on Android devices. Android is getting momentum in India, $35 tablet with Made-in-India tag is also operated by Android OS.
Recently we reported that Acer brings Android powered beTouch e110at Rs 8999, now Samsung Android smartphone is also under 10k mark, Samsung Galaxy 5 is estimated to be priced around Rs 9000.
The other smartphone Samsung i5800 Galaxy 3 is priced Rs 12000. Both are loaded with Android OS, v2.1 (Eclair), compared to Android OS 1.5 powered Acer e110. Galaxy 3 is also promised to upgrade to Android 2.2 in coming future. Galaxy 3 is also promised to upgrade to Android 2.2 in coming future. Both have TouchWiz v3.0 touchscreen UI and 3G connectivity.

The Galaxy 5 has been equipped with 802.11b/g Wi-Fi capabilities and All Share to control, search, swap and view photos as also enjoy music across a full range of DLNA certified platforms. It offers a USB v2.0 port, internal memory of about 170MB and a microSD card of around1GB which can be expanded by up to 32GB. The gizmo runs on a 1200mAh battery that extends talk time of about 571 minutes on 2G and about 387 minutes on a 3G network.
The standby time of the battery has been calculated to last for approximately 521 hours on 2G and about 375 hours on a 3G network. The TouchWiz 3.0 UI supported by the phone lets users browse the web swiftly. The Swype service provided by the device enables users to write a message by moving a finger in a continuous motion over the letters on the screen. Users can access a host of applications offered by Google and the Android Market. It also possesses the Layar Reality browser that accommodates AR on the phone.
The Galaxy 5 integrates Social Hub for aggregating contacts. The HTML5 and HSDPA 7.2 specs mean that downloading and content viewing speed is enhanced significantly. The phone�s navigational capabilities are supported by an in-built A-GPS system that also works with Google Maps. It weighs about 102gms with dimensions amounting to approximately 56mm x 108mm x 12.3mm.
The Galaxy 5 I5500 handset will be available for sale from July this year across China, Australia, Europe, Latin America, SEA, SWA, and EMEA. The price of the handset is still under wraps.
