Samsung, a giant company in the electronics industry, is all set to embrace the tablet market with their new product called the Galaxy Tab. Verizon stores will  be selling these new tablets on November 11 for the price of $600.



Most experts agree that Apple�s iPad will have a tough competitor now that the Galaxy Tab is about to hit the market. But with its tag, experts are quite frustrated with the Galaxy Tab since the iPad 16GB is just $500 and the 64GB is $700. Take note that the 16GB iPad already comes with a MiFi bundle which would give you a total of $630.
Just recently, Verizon released their data plans namely the 1GB for $20 monthly, 3GB for $35, 5GB for $50, and the 10GB for $50 only. These plans can be used for the Galaxy Tab as well.
While Apple�s iPad has a 9.7-inch screen, the Galaxy Tab on the other hand only has 7 inches. Both the Tab and the iPad have 1GHz processors. However, iPad only sports a low memory of 256MB compared to Galaxy Tab�s 512MB.
You can use either of the two cameras in the Galaxy Tab. One is at the rear while the other is at the front which can be used for video calling feature. Although the current version of iPad does not have this kind of feature, many expect that the future iPads will have its own camera as well.
If you are a fan of Google�s Android, then you would love the Galaxy Tab since it runs on Froyo a.k.a Android 2.2. However, if you don�t mind getting the iOS instead, try to have a bite of Apple�s iPad which has a battery life of 3 hours or more according to the company.
Another thing we wanted to add (thanks to guest comment: ANDY) is that the Galaxy Tab is also a phone so that feature alone makes the Tab a better option. With the iPod you cannot make any calls so you would also need an iPhone but with the Tab, you can make phone calls directly from your device. Pretty cool feature for a tablet and does set the Galaxy Tab apart and makes it even more unique. So take this feature into consideration when you are deciding on which one to get per your needs.

ANDROID IS IPHONE'S BIGGEST THREAT

Since Verizon finally has the iPhone, now everyone wants to know exactly how it will impact the mobile phone market. Everyone wants to know if customers will leave AT&T and if Verizon will be getting a large increase in its users
The online ad network, Chitika, says that the real fight won�t be AT&T against Verizon; it will be the battle between the two operating systems of the iOS versus the Android. If you look at a sample of 2.5 million click rates on the Chitika network, the network discovered that 55 percent of their traffic from Android came from Verizon customers. In contrast, Sprint only had 25 percent, T-Mobile only had 18 percent, and AT&T was a poor fourth at two percent.
So, the bottom line is that since Apple is giving Verizon the iPhone in February, they have tapped into a large potential market of new users and they are attacking Android at a very crucial point, said Chitika in a blog post.




He went on to say that the reason for AT&T�s lousy showing with Android was rather foggy, but that if AT&T customers are only picking the iPhone because they like it better, then Android�s share of the market on Verizon could be in serious jeopardy. But, he added, if instead these smart phone customers just believe Apple�s Android offerings are not as good, then AT&T is probably the company that has the most to lose.
It doesn�t matter what occurs, he said, Apple is still going to win big.
Forrester and IDC analysts agreed with him, saying that now Apple had another channel to sell the iPhone and that the deal will help Apple fight the increasing influence of Android.
Other research sent this week by ChangeWave reported that 16 percent of AT&T users and 26 percent of iPhone customers may choose to move to Verizon from Verizon.

Apple has finally managed to reach the 10,000th native iPad application, doubling the total number of applications since the past 6 weeks. The milestone itself came just two months after the release of iPad.
On top of it, Apple has extended an open �invitation� to all those developers out there, to develop applications for iPhone OS4.0. To think of it, Apple has recently imposed a set of restrictions against the developer community, I wonder how many applications will be developed for iPhone OS 4.0.


And then again, there�s a small catch to it � 3rd party companies, that haven�t been premium iPhone app developers, are awaiting a longer approval process on all their applications. Elsewhere, there is Google�s Android, which is more open and cushy for all sorts of developers. Even though Google�s own staff deeply analyzes all applications and considers user feedback to be of extreme value before releasing an application, but writing code snippets for Google is still easy.
Apple and various Android manufacturers are roughly shipping the same quantity of handheld devices in different parts of the U.S. and among different international buyers. According to some figures released by Google, the company is activating 100,000 Android based phones on daily basis.
According to NPD data that was released in May, Android takes the second place in terms of smartphone operating systems use. It turned out that it is behind RIM�s OS.
There have been a lot of stats floating around from both sides, market research studies have revealed that Google is gaining a speedy pace over Apple, and maybe, there is a chance that Google might be the next major shareholder in the market, as compared to Apple.

The Galaxy Tab features a 7-inch (180 mm) TFT-LCD touchscreen, Wi-Fi capability, a 1.0 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 ("Hummingbird") processor, the Swypeinput system,[4] a 3.2 MP rear-facing camera and a 1.3 MP front facing camera for video calls � running the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system.[5] It supports phone functionality (as speaker phone, via provided wired ear piece or Bluetooth earpieces.), except those sold for US marke








The tablet is enclosed in a plastic frame[6] that makes it lighter than other metal-bodied tablets, weighing 380 g (0.84 lb).[7]
The GT-P1000 model carries a 7" LCD TFT instead of the AMOLED which is used by Samsung in the rest of its Galaxy S phones.[8] The screen has a 1024�600 resolution. It has a flash internal storage of 16 GB or 32 GB that can be expanded with additional microSD flash cards with up to 32GB more. Its CPU is a 1.0 GHz Cortex A8 application and has 512 MB of RAM paired with a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processor.
The tablet has two cameras: a 3.2 MP camera (rear) that comes with a LED flash and a 1.3 MP front camera for video calling. The front camera have auto focus features when pressing the virtual shutter button. Photo is taken upon release the button. Also have auto panorama pictures, combining 8 picture. Also offer Single shot, Continuous, Panorama, Smile shot, Self-shot. Smile shot will automatically trigger once the subject smile.




The tablet has 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, 3G connectivity through GSM, CDMA, HSPA and HSUPA networks, and a GPS chip.
It is believed that its 4000 mAh battery will give it 7 hours of video playback or 10 hours of talk time.[9]
The AT&T and T-Mobile variants of the Galaxy Tab have a SIM slot that accept a micro SIM card with an adapter card.[10] This slot can also accommodate a 3G data-only SIM card if the user does not need cellphone-type calling features.[11] The system automatically reboots every time the SIM card is replaced.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab also has an optional RCA Video Cable that can output the screen to TV or other media. However the screen on the Tab cannot be turn off while you are watching. The best remedy for this situation is to use a backlight dimming app and keep it on the lowest setting.[12]

This tablet comes with Android 2.2 which has been modified with some custom skins and applications.[13] Most Android 2.2 apps developed using Google's guidelines for Android should scale properly when displayed on larger-screen devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, according to Samsung.[14] Adobe Flash 10.1, DivX,[15] MPEG-4, WMV and Xvid, H.263, H.264[16] support has also been announced. It come with Atmel's maXTouch touchscreen Multi touch capacitive,[17][18] and multi tasking,.[19][20]
It features calendar, email and instant messaging applications. It has a launcher for e-reading applications which starts PressDisplay when reading newspapers, Kobo when reading e-books, and Zinio when reading magazines.[21] For viewing and editing Microsoft Office documents, the Galaxy Tab also comes bundled with the Android version of ThinkFree Office Mobile.[22]
Samsung Galaxy Tab can also provide tethering, acting like a WiFi hotspot for up to 5 devices. Samsung Galaxy Tab phone allow you to store address that is link to Google maps/GPS with one click. It also allow linkage with Facebooks profile if the phone address is link with facebooks address.
Currently, the Galaxy Tab includes Android 2.2, called Froyo, and will be upgradable to Android 2.3, called Gingerbread, in the near future.[23] However, it is not expected to accept the subsequent versions of Android. The first of which will be named Honeycomb (version number cannot be confirmed at this time),[24] due to strict hardware requirements. There has been controversy that Honeycomb will require a dual-core CPU, which would render the Galaxy Tab unable to upgrade. However, recent reports have stated that there would not be a dual-core requirement, leaving the possibility that an upgrade would be possible should Samsung provide it.[25] Samsung Galaxy Tab HD video content is supported by a wide range of multimedia formats (DivX, XviD, MPEG4, H.263, H.264 and more) which maximizes support for various video format media.[26] Samsung Galaxy Tab plays video well, either stored on the device itself or streamed from YouTube and it can output 720p video to a TV using either a composite video cable or via HDMI when using the optional dock.[27]
Text input in Galaxy Tab can be done using Swype, by tracing a path over letters on a virtual keyboard, but standard XT9 predictive typing is also supported.[28]
Samsung Galaxy Tab also allow screenshot by a simply press and hold the back button and power button at the same time. Screenshots will be captured in a Screenshots folder in your Gallery.[29]

ANDROID HONEY COMB

Despite ongoing speculation that Android 3.0 is imminent, it looks like the next release of the mobile operating system--dubbed "Honeycomb"--will be version 2.4.

 Google vice president of engineering Andy Rubin showed off the upcoming Honeycomb version on a prototype Motorola tablet on the same day that Google released the "Gingerbread" version of the software earlier this month.Also widely expected to bear the 3.0 version number, Gingerbread turned out to be version 2.3 instead.Few details about Honeycomb were divulged at the time of Rubin's demonstration, but he did confirm that--unlike previous versions of Android--Honeycomb will be optimized for both tablets and smartphones.
Google has said in the past that other versions of Android are not really tablet-ready, and will not properly run applications downloaded from the Android App Market.
Still undisclosed by Rubin, however, was any specific timeframe for Honeycomb's expected release next year.
�Google Is Holding Version 3.0�
Now, with an expected February launch date, it looks like Honeycomb will be a less significant update than had been anticipated.
"For whatever reason, it sounds like Google is holding version 3.0 for something special," Android and Me's Taylor Wimberly wrote. "You would think they [would] throw 3.0 out [there] to make a statement when the first Honeycomb tablets launch, but I guess like most big Google launches those will be sort of beta, with some new features still missing."
Android versions tend to come out about every six months, with dessert-focused names. The "Froyo" version launched earlier this year added enterprise-focused features including IT password enforcement and remote wipe, while Gingerbread added communications capabilities such as a Near-Field Communications reader and SIP-based VoIP calling.
3.0 to Debut in May?
Still to come are "Ice Cream" and "Jellybean," either of which could potentially take the 3.0 spot. It's conceivable Google might bestow the 3.0 crown on one of those at the big Google I/O conference in May, Wimberly noted.
Linux-based Android now holds third place in U.S. mobile operating system market share,according to comScore, with 24 percent of the market in October.

Several months ago we reported that Motorola and Verizon had scored an exclusive on an upcoming version of Android, which we believed to be Gingerbread. It turns out that information was off, but I believe the mix-up came from my trusted source who was referring to Gingerbread as Android 3.0.
We now know that Gingerbread is Android 2.3 and likely to debut on the Nexus S, but it still appears that Motorola and Verizon have an exclusive on Android 3.0 or Honeycomb.
After Google�s engineers finished Android 2.2 (FroYo) they were split into two different teams � one to work on Gingerbread for existing platforms and one to work on Honeycomb for tablets. Every Honeycomb tablet that I know of is rumored to use NVIDIA�s Tegra 2 dual-core processor, so it appears that it is the lead platform for Android 3.0 just like Texas Instrument�s OMAP3 was the lead platform for Android 2.0.
Motorola has been working on their Android tablet for over a year now and new information suggest a 7-inch version will be the first device with Android 3.0. The new details come from Mobile-Review which is run by Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin who is a reliable source (and the same guy that confirmed the Samsung dual-core phone).
Mobile-Review claims the tablet will be called the MOTOPAD, but not many details are provided beyond that. We have heard several internal codenames for the device ranging from Everest to Stingray, so there is no telling what it might actually be called by the time it goes on sale.
We expect Motorola to announce their Android tablet in a couple months at CES in Las Vegas. They have a big press event scheduled for Wednesday, January 5th, and I think we could also see their Olympus phone (aka Terminator).
